The Love Songs

About

The Love Songs ! This trio follows the theme of love, revisiting some of the finest standards in jazz history. Firstly, because love is the driving force of life, but also because the themes that have magnified it in jazz are countless. The trio, made up of Manuel Hermia, Pascal Mohy and Sam Gerstmans, had only to pick them to make a superb bouquet and offer it to us.

There are few examples of sax-piano-bass trios in the history of jazz. The most famous is undoubtedly that of Lee Konitz, Brad Meldhau and Charlie Haden, and it was this trio that served as the inspiration for this project, in terms of how to take some freedom with these standards that have become jazz classics.

But the focus was also on the intimate quality of the band’s sound, leaving plenty of room for softness and subtlety. With delicacy and lyricism, the piano supports the voluptuous, fragile breath of the tenor, to the rhythm of the double bass beats like those of a heart ready to race. Manuel Hermia, Pascal Mohy and Sam Gerstmans deliver these standards and their universal love stories with the necessary elegance and sincerity to make them unique. This trio is sure to sweep you off your feet.
