Orchestra Nazionale Della Luna

About

Founded by Kari Ikonen ( piano, moog – Finland ) and Manuel Hermia ( sax, bansuri – Belgium ), the Orchestra Nazionale della Luna is a modern jazz quartet, both rooted in jazz tradition and open to the times and horizons of our vast world.

Both the moog and the bansuri broaden the scope of a classical quartet, inviting sounds from India and Arabic music, as well as more electronic effects All this is set against a backdrop of intense rhythmic complicity between Sébastien Boisseau (double bass – France) and Teun Verbruggen (drums – Belgium), who share with the soloists rhythmic and melodic jousts that are always surprising.

Exploring the balance between composition and improvisation, acoustic and electronic sounds, order and chaos, their repertoire questions the new paradigms we’re facing: ecological crisis, social disruptions caused by new technologies, economic crises… A commitment that is also expressed in some of their compositions, and contributes to nourish their musical universe.

An intoxication of swing and modernism, with a hint of spiritual depth in the music and an offbeat, almost Fellinian sense of humor, make Orchestra Nazionale della Luna a unique musical meteorite.
